--- The following is a brief exerpt from the book "Preparing for the Rapture: The Necessity of Discipleship"
C1.1 - What is a Disciple?
The following definition will be used throughout this training Study Guide to understand a Biblical concept of what a Disciple of Jesus Christ is.
<A-1,Noun, G3101, mathetes>
When the student of the Bible begins to grasp the context of Scripture, he will soon discover that the whole process of knowing God, of having fellowship with God and His design for fellowship within the body of Christ, the Church, is NOT for the purpose of believers to be isolated and cut-off from others. God wants those who believe in Him, to be His representatives here in this world as salt and light. That means that we need to network with others. God did NOT have this grand plan of salvation for His followers to sit around with a form of godliness that is powerless, with a focus on self-fulfillment rather than building up the Faith of others.
I used the term The Discipling Process throughout this Study Guide to describe the overall concept of the process of learning and understanding the various concepts of following Christ that Jesus taught to His Disciples during His three-year training program. Our focus will be threefold:
1) It is designed to breathe a pro-active Faith into the life of the reader that desires to follow Jesus Christ, so that we all can become complete, mature and lacking nothing James 1.1-4.
2) To develop a pro-active understanding of fellowship within the body of Christ. The full concept of agape Love is fellowship, fellowship with God and fellowship with others.
3) To expound upon the role and function of the Holy Spirit and bearing the Fruit of the Spirit of God in our lives.
The Discipling Process is not meant for one person to learn and go it alone. That simply is not spiritually healthy. Jesus said; "For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I AM in the midst of them." Matt 18:20, AMP In the Great Commission, Jesus said to "make Disciples" and to "Train Disciples". For the purpose of this Study Guide, The Discipling Process will assume that there are at a minimum three people that are engaged in the Discipling Process - The Disciplor - The Disciplee - The Holy Spirit.
The Disciplor, (a new word) is a very unique position. This person is one who is mature in his Faith and has a good grasp of the Bible. This person, in order to be effective [must] be in the process of being discipled - and in the process of discipling someone else.
The Disciplee (new word) refers to one who is being trained by a Disciplor. The Disciplee applies to both the new believer, or to someone who has been in the church for a number of years, but has not followed a disciplined process of spiritual growth. The Disciplee will generally remain a disciple for up to one year (for example), and then he should start to disciple someone else while at the same time continue the process of [being discipled]. I am a very firm believer in this concept of dual training. By that I mean that being in a relationship with others where I am being challenged and discovering new insights from the Word is one form of training. However, the process of discipling someone else is a greatly cherished [learning] process. The more I learn about God, the more I realize how little I know Him.
Knowing who God is, what His plan is and understanding His Word is simply too vast and too powerful for a "lone" person to grasp. As Disciples, we will testify to the powerful dynamics that will take place as we learn to “grow together”. Every Disciple of Christ has a unique quality or talent and position to add to the process of building the body of Christ.
C1.2 - The Call to Discipleship - Following Jesus Christ
Is salvation simply a song and a prayer and you are born-again? Or is there a bigger and greater purpose?
Is salvation really "free" as many are preaching today - or - Did the grace and privilege of being born-again and set free from the bondage of sin and death cost God His Son, Jesus His life, and the believer his all? Many within the Church system are sold on, and only want the "free" salvation, where change and discipleship are not taught or required.
Scripture tells us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, and His Gospel has not and will not change or evolve from how the Scriptures were inspired by the Holy Spirit two thousand years ago. Jesus said it, "18- For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Matt 5:18, KJV
Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also]. Matt 16:24, AMP
The call to salvation is not a call to do nothing. Jesus asks every person who puts their Faith in Him, to follow His lead, to be His disciple, to produce Fruit, and to make other disciples - preparing them for eternal life. This is the primary call and purpose of restoration from the death and destruction of sin to eternal life in and with Jesus Christ. Jesus said that the way to salvation and to eternal life is a narrow path and we can stay on that narrow path only through obedience to His Word.
The world is filled with deception and chaos globally. The light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being modified and that Light is growing dim allowing the spirit of the anti-Christ to become more prevalent and dominate. Jesus has instructed all of us that He has called, to restrain the evil one and to fulfill His Great Commission. Jesus said; "All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me." Matt. 28.18 Jesus transferred that power to us by the indwelling of His Holy Spirit so that we can accomplish the mission. As Disciples of Christ, we have been given 'authority' by Christ to manage [or steward] the affairs of this life -- all with the idea and hope of readiness for His return.
This authority is "as representing Christ" John 15.16;
“It wasn’t you who chose me but I who chose you, and I appointed you so that you should go and produce fruit, and that your fruit should endure, so that whatever you may ask the Father in my name He may give you.”
of building up the body of Christ. Paul said in 2 Cor.10.8;
“So if I boast a little too much about our authority, which the Lord gave us to build you up and not to tear you down, I will not be ashamed of it.”
We have been given greater authority over the powers and principalities of the air Eph.6.12: BUT it must be remembered that we in the flesh do not have this authority, ONLY as we walk in the Spirit - abiding in Jesus Christ and His Word of Truth, abiding by the Law of Truth, does that authority that we have been given emanate from Christ through us.
IT IS NOT [OUR] POWER OR AUTHORITY - But the power of Jesus Christ working through us as we [represent] Him and His kingdom.
Additionally, while this authority (of representing Christ) is available to all who are born-again in Christ, it is only given to those who are bearing the Fruit of the Spirit. Only as we abide in Christ, does our Faith, Love, Wisdom and Understanding mature to the point that we can in fact [represent] Jesus Christ - and it truly does require all 34+ facets of the Fruit to be alive and active in the life of the believer so that we are walking in the Spirit and mind of Christ and representing Christ in [all] that we do.
If you have read this briefing this far, and it bears witness in your spirit, then you are one who is called to be a disciple of Christ. Will you join with me as we allow the Holy Spirit to teach us Truth and to bear the Fruit of His presence and power in us? Being a Disciple is not a part time job. You really are called to Love God with all, above all, and to take up your cross and follow Him, and He has given us His Holy Spirit as a surety to be able to accomplish His call.
We will be forensically looking at the Discipling Process so that we can be fully equipped to effectively stand against the god of this world, and to make more disciples for Jesus Christ.
The Disciple's Life Coaching experience will include:
A Biblical understanding of Truth - this might seem insignificant but God's Truth today is being distorted in more ways than we can imagine. As prophesied by Jesus, false teachers abound and only an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Word of Truth will allow us to accurately discern their deception.
The miracle of our great salvation. There is so much that God has for us when we are restored back into fellowship with Him. His restoration is all inclusive in every area of our life, social, mental, physical.
Bearing much Fruit of the Spirit of God. One dynamic that is not talked about in many churches today is the life changing aspects of bearing much Fruit. We are commanded to walk in the Spirit. We will discover how God's Spirit works in our life in a multi-dimensional way bringing healing to our minds, our souls and our bodies. Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit is the very essence of Almighty God working in us.
Discovering the inherent power of God's Laws and Instructions. Another subject that is not talked about today, however, you will discover how important the Laws of God are in both spiritual warfare and in our everyday life. God's Laws and His instructions for life are required to stand against the deceptions of satan.
A forensic in-depth examination of these and many other Biblical precepts which are vital for the Disciple.
